Scalp tattoos are popular among young people who are concerned about hair loss.
It looks good when they first get it, but a smudge of dots or mottled spots can appear in as little as 1month up to 1year.
What can we do to avoid these side effects from scalp tattoos?
First of all, it’s important to know why this occurs.
This is related to technical problems of the SMP procedure.
To avoid the appearance of a smudge of dots, an appropriate amount of ink should be applied at an appropriate depth without scarring the skin.
In a typical SMP machine, the needle rotates.
So, if the needle is in contact with the skin longer, there is damage to the skin while the skin is healing.
And smudge of dots might occur.
Also, if the needle goes in too shallow, the ink only gets to the epidermis. This in turn will eventually fall out, which is why mottled spots might occur.
So, the needle should deposit the ink into the skin to ensure it’s seated above the hair follicle without damaging the skin.
Going too deep can lead to excess scar tissue, which then might cause hair loss.
There are some cases that the hair becomes thinner while getting the procedure.
Therefore, without understanding and knowledge of the skin’s structure and skin’s layer, it is very difficult to perform this procedure without side effects.
It must be performed by someone with knowledge of all of the above and experience with this procedure.
